Good Morn. It is a beautiful 78 degrees today but an ugly one at that. We are in Havre so it's nice and ugly.
I got more MONTANA than I could handle this last week. I think we talked to more people this last week than I have my whole mission. It was a good week. Here are just some of the things that we did and some of the new friends that we have: We helped clean up flooded basements from storms, mowed a couple of lawns, ate rhubarb pies, went to a funeral, went to the livestock auction (I want to be an auctioneer now), cut off sheep testis (p.s. they don't taste too good), mooched off a funeral luncheon, ate some cole slaw with hair in it, met a 3 thousand year old vampire named Bob, got my cowboy on, talked about hell, moved somebody out who had a basement that only could be compared to a landfill (complete with birds, bugs, and movie cardboard cutouts), argued homosexuality, heard about the World Cup everyday because Elder Holbrook eats, sleeps and breathes soccer/futbol (not a bad thing), met a couple from Ghana who said we could come back, and some other lovely folks who listened to us but didn't have any interest. One new investigator = Chad. We'll see what happens. We are scroungin' the dirt for people to teach. Transfers are this weekend. hint
I think that is about it for our week. I really don't know if I can expound on my week any more than that. I don't want to talk about missionary work right now.
I think that we get the sports news quicker than you guys get even watching it on live TV. We have ward members who keep us informed on everything that happens in the sports world which is nice.
Someone told me that it was about 112 in AZ the other day. Have fun with that.
I also heard (very random letter) that Joe Germaine IS the coach for Queen 'Crik' High. T or F?
Did Annie's BF i mean Husband now, go to Davis High in Kaysville?
Sounds like you guys are doing good as always. Tell Jared to go on a mission and to be able to teach the whole first lesson in Tagalog before he goes into the MTC.

Flippity flip!
Flippity flip Mom! Ahhhh flip. I cannot believe that things are going to flippin way they are. Flip. Don't worry. Im sure things will be ok. As for police this week.... I got pulled over on Wed night just about 10 miles out of Great Falls. It was awesome. All I have to do is send in 20 bucks to the courthouse and I'm cleared. I think I am going to try to get pulled over more often at that price. JK but seriously. Thursday we spent the day working in Elder Cox and Colfs area and then Friday we had zone conf. (Which was really good) (it always is) We were encouraged on our bike safety and lawn mower safety along with car safety. Elder Shelley, serving in Great Falls, was riding his bike the same week I mowed my toe and crashed, got knocked out, and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Elders in Wyoming came around a corner too fast and rolled their truck several times. Our mission had a good couple weeks this past month. Back to Friday after Zone Conf.... About 6:30, after we had left Great Falls and been on the rode for about an hour, we get a call from Elder Child, who was on his way back to Havre, and he told us that he got pulled over by the same exact Montana HP guy that I did. Ha. What a day.
I'm not sure if you heard or not but Billings got a tornado Sunday and hit a couple of Buildings. This whole last week we have gotten Hail everyday. Wednesday Lewistown had tornado warnings and the hail coming down broke a couple windows. Ive never seen so much hail. We had about 3 inches of it on the ground. Looked like snow. This morning we helped a family pump about 6 inches of water out of their basement and move out all of the furniture, guns, clothes, etc that got wet. + the carpet. Good morning for them.
When the storm hit Wednesday with the tornado warnings we had just got done helping a lady mow her lawn. Don't worry I didn't do any mowing. But, she is one of those freak out types and when she heard about the tornado warnings she flipped. She was asking about what she would do if a tornado were to hit her house and she panicked like none other woman I have ever seen. We left because she was scaring us and then called us telling us she was scared. I called back and talked her down. The storm settled down too so that helped. The joys of being on a mission, let me tell ya.
I think I told you about our fast and testimony meeting a couple of weeks ago with the 98 year old former stake patriarch who sang a song? The song he sang was "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go" and now he is in the hospital probably ready to get going on to new things. I thought that was a pretty cool story. As of now, I haven't heard anything but I'm sure it will be soon.
Last thing to ask of anyone that is reading and if... they feel so inclined to do so. I was wondering if I could milk out some conversion stories from some of you. Like I said, if you feel inclined to do so then please do so. send them by mail or email. Write as if someone was to ask you about how YOU know that the church is true.
We went tracting the other day and found two guys who, live right next to each other. That was pretty sweet. We have a return appt for one this Thursday and the other guy for the following week.
Will & Courtney left. They are gone. We are sad.
We taught K the other day. That went well. She is having some difficult times right now but she is still on target for getting her patriarchal blessing. We are excited for her.
The members in the ward are still doing good and helping us out with whatever we need. The Relief Society is helping us set up some dinners with some less active and part member families so that is very "SWEET" of them. They tend to help us out a bunch. Maybe that's because I'm from Gilbert and so is the RS President. The Bishop is helping out a lot too. Everyone is but we keep coming up empty handed. P.S. I had an epiphany ( is that how you spell it?) this past week. I do not want to be a rancher any more. They don't get any vacation and they are always working on their ranches.
It was sweet to see the Ladukes. We had a good little visit on the AF Base. Its kind of like that Twilight zone episode where its their own little community out there and they have everything the need on the base. Weird. Anyway, we had a good visit and NO we did not make it to their ward potluck which I would have liked to. They have 3 kiddos now and the oldest is getting pretty big. I remember when he was just born. They told us that they are headed to Delaware in three weeks.
A couple last things: A guy in our ward just won the world Auctioneering championships in Oklahoma and is now the poster boy for the world auctioneering association or whatever it is. I thought that shed some light on the city of Lewistown and what its made out of.
That's about it for our week. We're still chugging along. Got to teach a gay black guy. It was awesome.
Also, helping the Barber family castrate lambs on Wednesday. yep. Cuttin' the scrotum, pullin' the testis and sendin' them on their way.
Church is still true
Thanks

Great note from the LaDukes in Great Falls...
Hey Jill,
How are you guys doing? I hope well. I wanted to let you know we just got to visit with a very handsome young missionary you might know:) Our ward missionary called around 6:00 and asked if they could stop by around 7:30 and I had a thought that maybe Elder Heywood would be there and was so glad when he was. It was really hard not to give him a big hug.
Elder Heywood looks great and has that wonderful missionary glow about him. He was so cute with our kids and shared a neat message with them about Nephi and how his last words were "I must obey." He told Braden that if he would always be obedient to his parents he would be happy. I had the thought of what neat parents he has and how happy he looks.
I wish I could have him over for dinner tomorrow after their zone conference but we're having a ward potluck so I invited him to that. I hope we'll get to see them there before they head back to Lewistown.
I got to see some narly pictures of his toe too. Of course, I love that stuff. That was quite an injury.
Well take care, you have a wonderful son and his spirit is just beaming through that big smile.

Most important things first...
I heard that Boise State went to MWC and will be playing in it by 2011 and that Colorado is now in the PAC 10? It also sounds like Pete Carroll got out of USC just in time. haha sucks for them.
Thats funny. I was just going to ask about Garrett and Jordan. Theyre married now, sweet! When are they going to Dixie? I think that will be awesome. I wouldn't mind going to Dixie. I think they play Montana in football. I could go walk on there. Maybe not any more though.
I still got some more questions for you guys. Has Nathan or anyone else serving in South Africa talked about the world cup? All my comp can do is talk about the world cup with anyone who knows anything about it. We're in Montana though so it doesnt happen too often. He loves soccer and is pretty much a soccer encyclopedia.
An last but not least, the biggest news of the week is that Elder Davis is a huge fan of PK, yep, thats right, when Elder Davis used to live in Utah he was a devout listener of DJ and PK in the mornings while on his way to school with his dad. He flipped out when I told him that I "Knew" PK. You can let Patrick Kinahan know that he has at least touched one life with the power of his sports cast calling in his life. I thought you might like to know that little bit of info.
Actually, this will be my last comment. Aaron and Katie? I am down on my knees. I get home in 9 months. Please oh please make me a baby. Make me a baby so that he will be finished by the time I get home. Perfect time. 9 months. Thats all I'm asking.
As for the missionary work in L-Town..... like I've said for the last 2 months, its still progressing just at a speed that isnt the most satisfying. I mean, it is Lewistown for goodness sake, not Ogden Utah. I think I've been spoiled the last couple areas. But, weve come up with some resolutions. First, we are going to spend all week, almost every hour of every day, tracting. What the heck, there's not much else to do. Next, we have really been working with the ward to try and do some little things here and there. We are having the RS call up some LA and PMFs in the ward to have us over for dinner so hopefully that works out well. It will allow us to go out to some families that live too far away for us to get to and let us hopefully teach them somewhat. I think the Philippines will be a little different. We went over again last night to our friends house, Bud B. and talked all about the Philippines again. We talked about public urination, men holding each others hands, yummy foods, and how its gonna a be a huge shock for Bear. Can't wait. Its gonna be pound pound so sick x2.
For Bob, the guy that owns the mower of the accident that I had, we saw him yesterday and he still feels horrible. I told him it was ok over and over and we just asked him if we could teach him. He said yes but that word doesnt have a lot of conviction for us these days. Will & Courtney, we figured out are moving at the end of this week. We were supposed to go over and teach them Saturday but with a brand new baby and moving and surgery and legal problems.... it didnt work out. We did find out that Courtney has read all the way to Jacob from the Introduction of the Book of Mormon. They told us to stop by again Wednesday and told us that they would make sometime to sit down before they take off and we could have a lesson. What we will probably end up doing is exchange info and make sure that the missionaries in Oregon make contact with them. Thats the best we can do. Pray for them. Satan works so hard on those types of people. Its been evident in every progressing investigator that we've had. He's good. Watch out.
Another interesting thing that we learned this week was all about paddlefishing. Its only a fish that lives up in these parts of the country off the missouri river. Check them out online. They're huge.
I almost forgot about K. He's also one of those Eternigators. He came to church again last sunday and claims he's gonna become a member but he wont let go of the green card. Everytime we talk to him we get off on some tangent about Aliens or something ridiculous. Its awesome. Luke would enjoy K.
Hope you guys have a good summer. Make sure you mow lawns that are flat. If you do mow a hill side make sure you wear some steel toed boots. All the cowboys in ward of course had to share their stories with me about how they almost lost one of their limbs. It was another great and entertaining Sunday.
Last thing. Went to Dr Olivos just before emailing and said things are looking a lot better. Thanks for all of the gauze.

The "TOE"
Yes this is me, really. Its not a ghost, I promise. I'm still alive. I don’t know if President Gardner called you the other day but I you haven’t found out by now I had an accident. And If you DO know then you probably want to hear the story. Whelp, here it is...
On Saturday morning we went over to a man’s house who we really want to get baptized. He was out mowing his lawn and we offered to help because he had a lot to mow and he’s not the youngest buck in the herd if you know what I mean. We ran home real fast to switch clothes and came back for some directions. He ended up having us mow some really steep hillsides on the front of his property. He wanted both of us to mow the hillsides together but I told Elder Holbrook to go do something else while I mowed the slopes by myself so that we could get done faster. As I was PULLING the mower UP, BACKWARDS my left foot slipped out from underneath me and went under the lawn mower. I definitely did not feel the blade almost cut off my foot but just felt and heard a big CLUNK hit my shoe. I was hit and the mower made that sound like when you mow over a branch. I pulled my foot away and saw that the end of my shoe was mowed off along with my Big Toe sitting there looking at me without a face. It was mowed off too. We went to the emergency room without any hesitation and they went to work. They took an xray first and showed me how the bone was shattered and then called in an orthopedic guy to try and make it look like a toe again. It was half successful. With half of the toe blown off it wasn’t that easy but Dr. Olivo did his best. The worst part about all of this is that wherever we go my toe just oozes out blood because there’s not anything covering the toe besides the gauze wrapping. It definitely leaks and people notice too. Church wasn’t the funnest. But, overall I'm alive and will just have to wait this sucker out. Its pretty frustrating, especially when you’re trying to get an area going.
So, the toe has been talked about, now Jared and the Philippines. We went over to that less active guy's house the other day and he was talking about head hunters. He told us that there are head hunters in the remote Philippine areas where the prove themselves worthy or able to protect a family/spouse by bringing the head of another person to the in laws and present it to them so that they can marry. I thought that was pretty cool. Brother Bunting also told me to tell you guys not to wear any jewelry or carry anything expensive that could be stolen. He suggested a 5 dollar pocket watch from walmart. Something concealed.
The other day I was writing in my journal for the first time in a while and had another good spiritual experience. I don’t know what it was or is about journal writing but it kind of just reflected or let me reflect on my personal progress. You know what I mean? It was kind of a self inventory. I’ve written in my journal before but this time was just different I don’t know why.
This last Friday we went down to Helena for a leadership meeting for the day. I got to see Brother Barrett before I left but other than that no one else. We had to get going to Great Falls for the other Elders and their appts. It was nice to be back in Helena again. I felt like I was home.
The old Patriarch is now 98 years old and lives in the Lewistown ward. At fast and testimony meeting the other day they handed him a microphone and he bore his testimony in word, song, and prayer. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen and spiritual too. I hope I die like him when Im old.
I officially saw my first red neck wedding the other day. It was awesome. I didn’t have my camera though so no pics. Not as red neck as you think but pretty good
When does Elmer leave to the MTC. If he is coming in this next transfer then its probably pretty soon right?
We are finally getting some people to teach but because of the dang toe we have slowed down. A while ago we stopped and talked to this guy who was working on his car and he let us start talking about the Gospel with him. He didn’t know anyone and his wife was expecting any day so we really addressed families and different topics that would hopefully interest him. We gave him a Book of Mormon and asked him to read it with his wife. He said sure. THE PERFECT COMBO for someone to investigate the church. We finally caught them at their place a couple of days ago but they were heading out with the newborn to do some errands. We asked them if they had read and the wife said that after we left the other week she came outside and read some of it with her husband. Let me tell you, that never happens, at least hardly. It was sweet. But, we were going to go over there on Saturday and then my toe got mowed. Worst day ever. We are still praying and hoping for them. They, at this point, are our only hope.
That’s about it for my week. Things are going to be interesting this next month. I hope it goes well. We had just started getting the habit of running every morning too. I was actually feeling skinny for once. But.... toe.

Dearest Family. I am on my last nine months guys. Is that crazy er what?
I guess we will first start off with a little description of Elder Holbrook, my new companero. He has hobbit feet and also hobbit legs (that means hes really hairy for all of you non-LOTR fans out there). He is a convert of about 2 years now and is older than me by a couple of weeks. No other person in his family is a member so he is the lone ranger. He has has sweet Kermit the Frog tattoo on his left tricep. He used to be in a ska and punk band called the SKARS and can tell you anything you want to know about punk rock. He looks like a miniature..... I dont know his name but dude with the glasses from Flight of the Conchords. Elder Holbrook also can tell you anything you want to about Chelsea soccer in England and anything about soccer in general. He thinks that he was supposed to be born in England but tripped out of the premortal existence. That reminds me... I was looking at his pictures when he first got here on his camera and there was a picture of taylor dahl on there in the MTC. Elder Holbrook also enjoys comic books and has a sweet Book of Mormon comic book that he brought with him that I highly recommend. All in all he is pretty radical. I think that that is the only word you could use to define him. Almost forgot, he is from Fort Collins, CO. Its gonna be so sick (pound poundx2).
There was another missionary that came in from Tempe, AZ who is 21 and went to Dobson High. HIs name is Aden Shelley. Elder Holbrook told me that another guy was supposed to come out with them from Chandler but he never showed up. Do you think that that is the Mesquite guy you were talking about? Talkin about Mesquite, I was in Great Falls from Monday to Thursday waiting for Elder Holbrook. I went to some different lessons with Elder Cox and ended up in a guys house named Erick Dirk who played football for Mesquite and graduated in 2001. I asked him if he knew a bunch of people and he did. Youll have to ask around if anyone knows him. I guess he went to North Dakota to play football instead of a mission and now here he is in Great Falls, MT. I guess its a tangent sort of day today but I learned something cool about the Cuban Missile Crisis that sends me off onto another tangent. I guess when Pres Kennedy said that the "Ace was in the hole" it was one of the missiles here in Montana because in between Great Falls and Lewistown there is a site that has a sign hanging saying, "Right Here Is Where The Ace Was In The Hole" something cool for dad. I know no one else probably cares. Also for dad: There are two guys here in Lewistown that served in the Leeds, England mission. Richard Merrel (dont know when he served) and Doug Day (served in 89) not when you did.
For the Apartment filled with smoke..... our prayers have been answered. The Smoker moved out.
I was glad that you did tell me about Mrs Moriarty. all 6 huh? Beautiful. I need to go see her when I get home.
As for home, Elder Journey is home now. You probably wont get to see him until I get home but just heads up if he ever shows up at our front door step.
As for Lewsitown, Things are the same. We are slowly rolling along. Slowly progressing. Thats all I got for this week. Cougar steaks tasted like cat. We're branding on Saturday.
Write back with any questions.
Love you cool cats. Love ya like a Boss. Elde rPHeywood.
