Discourse from the Dive

I'm in the DIVE. It looks like Elder Snyder is going to finish up in the Dive and I'm going to stay here until Christmas. Which means, the next area I have after this one will be my last.  Transfers occurred. There are 3 Elders out which means 3 coming in. (our ZONE)

The Felons in the Jail are still our most progressing investigators and they are doing really well. D is planning on baptism this Christmas and J postponed her baptism until This Sunday in between CONF sessions. By the way, who is all going to conference? I want to go right when I get back considering that its about 2 weeks after my arrival. Perfect homecoming gift. JK but seriously. Back to the Jam. Last week was pretty cold considering we got snow 2 fridays ago but saturday and Sunday were in the high 70 low 80s. It was sweet. We are trying to make the best of it knowin that this week will probably be our last week of good weather. I am not excited.

We spent a lot of our day on Sat helping out a member's non member family do their roof. or "RUFF" as people would say it here. It went well. We are thinking about stopping by again sometime this week to see how it finished out. I really like the family that we did it for. We were told that the dad was a little apprehensive when we were refferred to for "HELP" We went over there and it ended being really good. PLUS, the classic rock station did NOT turn off. It was sweet. JK but seriously.

You'll enjoy the fact that last night I played CANASTA with Vaughan and 3 other ladies well into the later years of their lives.

This week at church, D and A got sent to Billings for a scrimmage game so K and D showed up with a non member girl from school who is now at '2' for times attended church. WHOO. We have not met her yet but hopefully it will be soon. There is also another guy that has been coming to church with a girl in the ward. He has been at church every Sunday in the last 2 months and got challenged to get on with his learning of the Gospel with the full time teachers in the ward. (US) As you can see, things are slowly moving along but nevertheless, progressing.

I said last week that our zone set a goal of 10 for new investigators per week. We have not failed yet. This last week we had 11 and the week before was 12. We are doing awesome. Some good things should be happening here on the east side.

There was a big baptism that happened in Townsend this last weekend for a man named W. I dont think I ever talked about him while I was in Helena but we did a lot of work with him and got to know him pretty well. He did lots of things for the Church and spent the last 3 years being stubborn while going through a million sets of missionaries. But, he was baptized this last week. When President Fisher was here W asked him if he would baptize him when the time came. The time came and the Fishers were there. If I was still in Helena I would have been able to see that dang it.

I wish I could spend a good amount of time telling you about each of the people we taught this week but I will have to write it down in my journal and give details later.

With winter clothes and what not...all I need is a non missionary sweatshirt, gloves, socks, and hat/beanie. If you find any of that at a low price at home then let me know otherwise I am planning to pick a lot of it up when we go to Billings in a couple of weeks. If you want to know what happened to all of that stuff that I had from last year. I gave a lot of it to people that needed it. Most of it went to H kids before I left Helena.

Well, talk to you next week. I want you to know that everyday I recieve answers to prayers and have my testimony strenthened. Everyday! I hope the choices that you make are always made with the knowledge that the church is true. It has/is/will be the most important thing anyone can ever have/know. Make it a bigger part of your lives.

No cross dressing here!

God Bless Montana!

Dearest Children...

Gotta couple three stories to tell you folks about for this past week. Lets just say I filled my goody bag of stories this past week and wont even be able to tell you all of them. God Bless Montana!
Some thoughts have really been on my mind last week. Missionary work has really been discussed and I thought of the horrible missionary that I was when I back living in the GLORY DAYS of GILBERT. Oh how wretched was my state. For I was decieved. THOSE.... were NOT the GLORY DAYS. If I would have shared the gospel more then, I say, then, they surely would have been glorious. But, I was selfish and immature and completely ignorant. Moral of the story. DC 60:2. Read it folks and feel the guilt. I think the thing I am most excited about for home is this very subject that I feel prompted to write about to you today and also the very reason Im on a mission. Yes. TO INVITE

The week was a success. Our zone set a goal to find 10 GATORS this week. We found 12. bam. WILL SMITH. We also have 5 Baptismal dates. Not to shabby for the Big Sky country. We had Stake/Regional Conference this week being broadcast from Salt Lake to WYO, COLOR, and MONT. It was .... pound pound. Saturday night we had some awesome speakers. One of the Stronger meetings Ive been to on my mission. Vaughan Jenkins was one of the speakers. I have a copy of his talk. I will send it to you. I think you would like it. Sunday we had Elder Hallstrom, President Uchtdorf, Elder Perry and Sister Cook.  It was..... pound pound pound. TOO good. Lots of good things were talked about. Almost forgot. The boys we have been working with at the college brought 5 non members to church for the conference and said there might be even more next sunday. Im Proud of my boys. I call them my children. The one kid, Austin, is a really likeable guy. I guess lots of the kids see him walk around campus on sunday with white shirt and tie and ask him where her is going and then just invites them to come. Its pretty rad. I am going to be very sad if I get transferred. We will find out all of that info this Friday.

As you know, we spent a couple three days in Glasgow and Poplar. What a treat. you couldnt pay me enough money to live in either of those places. Ironically, it was a good time and very uplifting and helpful to the Elders in those areas. (Deleted Story)

The same day, in the evening time, we went over to a part member families house to teach the husband. (Oops another deleted story)

As for our Investigators, D was back in UT for the weekend and is doing awesome. He will probably get baptized in the winter when he can have all of his family, friends, etc there for him. He is doing awesome. J  and J have been busy, which is a good thing and we havent been able to see them for a while.  There are others we are trying to see and others we have contacted but won't get followups on until this week.  In Glendive we have a handicap lady getting baptized this Sunday. She is adopted by her brother and lives with him and his wife. We have been teaching her and she wants to get baptized. I like her a lot. Thats it.

It snowed 2 inches last friday and didn't melt till the following morning. Cant wait for the winter. Its back up to 65 today. Its september. This place they called me to on my mission is a crazy place.

Love.

Several people have asked about Parker's "toe".  We tried to make this a thumbnail (no pun intended) but can't figure out how to do it on this blog...so the pics will be small in case the reader wants to skip right by. They can also be enlarged by clicking on them...sick or sic!

Mind you these pics are 5 WEEKS AFTER IT HAPPENED!

Football & Grasshoppers

Sorry about the late letter. We did laundry this morning and then helped someone move along with our shopping. So, I just got on the computer.

We had a pretty good week this last week. Don't I always say that though? That's because it was and is and always will be. The church is true.

When I get the chance I will try to put pics on the Costco account. That would be a good idea.

Bummer about all the football teams that we like. Doesn't sound like they are doing too well. Even if ASU won by 20 pts they will probably get destroyed by Wisconsin. Threet sounds alright. What happened to all of their other players from my year like Gerrel Robinson and That RB from Cali? As for GHS: I cant believe Coach Dunn isn't working them hard. I thought he would have been a good football coach. He was my history teacher my Jr year. I liked him a lot.

I think everyone was very inspired to write to me about football this week because this weekend I will get to see my first football game on the mission. Oha Yeahh. Lewistown vs Glendive. The Allens told us to give them a call when they came to Glendive so that's exactly what we are going to do. Both teams are horrible so it should be a good game. Probably same play every play. Cant wait to see some good ole A, not 2A or 3A, but, A football. Its gonna be horrible. Aww ya. Cant wait.

Some things I forgot to mention from last weeks email was that we took CLon a church tour. It went really well. We picked him up with CF, because C cant drive, and headed up to the church. He enjoyed it. This last week, we just visited him at his house and had a good lesson. He is slowly progressing.

Our outdoor ZC was pretty good. It took place in Pryor, MT. About 45 minutes south of Billings. It was obviously more outdoors oriented so we spent time writing in our journals around the ranch we were at, having some crazy sweet object lessons, BBQ, Scriptures, Spirit, Testimony meeting, and profound and prophetic counsel from Pres Gardner. Thankfully we didn't have to do much besides a short little role play. That's all we did though (Elder Snyder and myself). Going back to the "Sweet object lesson" that we had at our conference. We were supposed to, as a district, collect different items such as: 12 stones, some sticks, some sort of animal feces, a bucket of sand, a tie (which we were already given), and any other items that we could find in nature, which for us was a couple other little branches, some grass, and a grass hopper. After the collecting part of it. Actually let me explain first. At that point we didn't know we were going to do a lesson. THE COLLECTING PART. After all was collected, we were then told to spend 5 minutes, again, as a district, coming up with a lesson on faith using the scriptures. We decided on the TREE OF LIFE and it was, HANDS DOWN PEOPLE, the best of the 7 different districts present in our conference. We had a couple of Narrators and others who placed our objects in the way that we wanted them to be. The best part was when we had Elder Thomas be John the Baptist. We read the vision of Nephi and talked about the Man Who Should Prepare the Way... the Man who Ate Locusts and Honey. haha. He then came from around the corner said, "gee I wish I really had some honey right now" then.. swallowed the grasshopper. Let me tell you Ann M Dibb. It took a lot of convincing on my part, but, he pulled through and took one for the team. That was probably the best part of the whole day.

After ZC everyone took off and we spent Our Saturday on team ups in Billings then came home that night. We are still very tired from IT ALL. Twas good though. Just to let you know, Saturday was the 11th. That was my 18month mark. Booyah. Goin on 19!

All the kiddos are here in library and are done with school so I'm getting kicked off. We are going to go bowling for a little bit, eat dinner with Bishop, and then meet D and D up at the church for a lesson. I will fill you in on investigators next week. We also will be in Poplar and Wolf Point the next couple of days so that will also be something to be looking forward to.

I really don't know what to tell Jared. Ask him how he feels about the Language and the missionary lessons. Also, send me his mission home address. I have a letter waiting to be sent to him.

ESPN=Pizza Hut

Important things first. I already know about Leinart being out and Anderson in with Hall as a back up. I already know these things. All the major and professional things I know about. We've got good resources plus, when we eat at ESPN, I mean, Pizza Hut.... never mind. The things I DON'T know about are all the college sports like: ASU, Conference mix ups, etc etc and BYU going independent and all the games they lose. Those are the things that I need to know.

It seeeeemed to me that VIDEO GAMES was one of the themes of my week. They aren't bad but when you have a wife and three kids, you're not getting to church, you're neglecting your family, and you are doing nothing but play video games... that's a little bit of a problem. At least, those are my thoughts. What do you think?

Our Zone had another sweet week of excellence. We did really well in finding, teaching. etc. We did though, however, have a missionary go home this last weekend. He was one of the new guys and just wasn't feelin it I guess. Before he went home he talked to his family, his stake President, His Bishop, and I'm sure others and he still called it quits. I was quite sad. President Gardner basically told him, "You either stay out and follow Jesus Christ or you go home and follow Satan." He chose the latter of the two. It was pretty tough and because he was in an area about 300 miles away from Billings it screwed us up pretty bad with our mileage allotments. The missionary that was with him should be headed back today with a visa waiter from the MTC.

For our area, we had a dang good week. We are teaching two new people. Ones name is D and the others name is J.  Do you remember the college kids who came last week and one of them wasn't a member? Ya? Well the one non member, D, we had a lesson with last Tuesday and he is reading the Book of Mormon, going to church and probably going to get baptized within the next couple months. He is awesome. He met this girl where he is from and started dating her. (Tremont, UT?) and told us that he originally was investigating the church for her but NOW. It was all him. When we taught him you could just feel how much he hungered and thirsted for knowledge. One of the most attentive investigators that Ive ever taught. Get this. The girl that initially started his investigation, invited him to church for the first time one Sunday and the main speaker/Presiding authority was Elder Holland. I don't think D really, even still, understands who Elder Holland is but he was like, "Ya That Elder Holland guy was a really good speaker and really made you feel good." "He has some good things to say. Especially to the youth." Elder Snyder and I were both in awe at his first church experience. Have you ever heard of the term "Golden Investigator?" Well, that would be an understatement for this kid.

The other N.I. for the week is J. He is the non member Husband of a Less active member of our ward who is the daughter of Active parents in the ward. Does that Make sense? The Active Parents are actually related to the Mcdowells in the 9th ward.  He is really interesting and is very hard to read. I cant really make sense of him but we asked him to read the Book of Mormon and he said He'd do it. I will keep you updated on him.

J and J are not on the spiritual high that they were before. Right now they don't have a really good rep and they are struggling with that. They have lots of DRAMA in their lives and are having to deal with a bunch of garbage that people are dealing out right now.  We had a good visit with them but, unlike we thought, the conversion process might take a little longer than expected.

The ward is really going through some crazy things. Ive never seen anything like it. I guess with all the new move ins and what not they feel a need to change all the callings around. So far, the whole YM and YW have been reorganized. The High Priest's Group just got re organized. The Elders Quorum is getting reorganized. Lots of things are changing. All at once. Its good though. The ward needs some new blood.

I forgot my planner so I forgot most of the things I was going to write about to you. All of the little things that don't really matter but I will try to get those to you guys next week. Our zone conf is this week and it is outdoors. Which means that we are wearing jeans and T's. That should go over pretty well. That's what I will be writing about next week. Cant believe its already week 4 of the transfer.

Booyah,
Elder PHeywood.

Good day.

This last week we had a good week. Our zone is doing really well with missionary work. Lots of good things have been happening. You are probably wondering about Ds baptism. It was one of the best baptismal services Ive ever been to. Nothing really out of the ordinary/extraordinary happened. It was just a nicely planned baptism with an opening and closing song, talk on baptism/holy ghost, baptism, and confirmation (which all took place on a Wednesday apart from Sunday because of work scheduling etc) The thing that made it so special was that (my own thoughts) there seemed to be such great rejoicing from everyone at the service AND beyond the veil. I really cant describe what it felt like but there was definitely a spirit of rejoicing there. Not to mention that we had 7 ex/active missionaries there. I would like to describe a little bit about the confirmation. D asked Bishop S to give the confirmation and it was very powerful. Bishop Sreally gave some inspired counsel and promises. Indescribable. How many times can I say that everything is real and true? I don't know. I don't think that testifying will ever stop.

Another thing that Ive observed this week has to do a lot with people and choices. The phrase, "make good choices" is often referred to and commonly used among all races, sects,....... everyone OK? It has almost just been an overused and misunderstood phrase because I don't think that people are actually taking it to heart. Most people would not be in the binds, hassles, problems, situations, and CRAP that they are in if they would make the right choices. For Example: What friends/people you are going to associate yourselves with, what you are going to eat/take into your bodies, if you're going to read your scriptures every day, if you're going to spread a rumor or lie or bad information about something or another, etc, etc. You now may be asking yourself, "Parker, theres obviously more to this than what your saying. What is the bigger picture here Parker?" I will reply to those rhetorical questions by saying, "It all starts with a thought, boys and girls. Make sure those thoughts align with the Lords will and you will do fine. You will have a happy and progressive life if you listen and follow... no, even better, HEARKEN unto the words of the savior. Be obedient. Make good decisions, make the RIGHT decisions." again, you might ask, "where does all of this - , so un-like you, prophetic, angelic, teeming with semantic and literary complexity wise words of COUNSEL come from?" I tell you, "from my experiences and observations. I know no one is perfect but how far can Christ gap the bridge between our finite mortal and incomplete selves..... to an exalted and resurrected and glorified and perfect.....heir of the Celestial Kingdom? I will answer my own question. We need to have FAITH. We just don't understand." I am going to say one more thing and THAT IS: Please let people change. Have Faith in the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

At church yesterday we had two new college kids come for the first time. One was a member and another was a non member who we will have a lesson with on Tuesday night. Yes. Bam. Whoo. These two Brodeos are also from Utah, like the Basketballers, and also have Sunday practices. Bum.
That is pretty much our last week in a condensed, spiritually enhanced form.

We have been trying to get out to Ekalaka so hopefully that will happen within the next couple of weeks. There is a lady down there who is a non member and an active member as well. She is the wife of the Elders Q Pres will be getting baptized. When? We don't know because they are so dang busy and hard to get in contact with and 100 miles away that we just don't know.

Lots of young wives in the ward are pregnant and getting ready to have babies. One should actually be having hers today. It makes me think a lot of Aaron and Katie.

Love.
