Hey there. Just talked to ya'll the other day so.... not much stuff to report on.

Elder Goff and I are getting prepared for our Leadership meetings coming up this week.  We are also trying to work hard in our area and feel normal again.  Its another good day with a high of 40 degrees. We went out to the car this morning and it was 30. It felt warm. Good or not good? Im gonna die when I get home.

I wish you could have seen the house we skyped from.

All the missionaries are in their areas and ready to go for the next 5 weeks. Until then.
I told you a while back, Our mission is trying to hit 1000 reactivations/baptisms for the year and as of this morning, we are sitting at 950. IT will be interesting to see how this last week will go.

Skype? YES!!!

Hey.

We have been allowed to SKYPE. Let me know what time would be best and we will do it to it.

I talked to SR on facebook the other day. He said he was doing really well and really liking HI. It was a little funny to discuss the difference in weather. He said he was sitting in a car and sweating. I told him that I was just came in from being outside in 20 degrees. Good ole MT.

Alright. let me know what you come up with on Christmas. What would you like me to do?

This last week was sure swell. We are trying to hit a total of 1000 re-activations/baptism by the end of the year and, as a mission, we are sitting at about 925. That leaves us two weeks to have 75 baptisms and/or reactivations. We pulled in 50 this last week, which was really good, so... we are hoping. Goff came in Wed. afternoon then we taught a couple of lessons. After that, we sent off the Unga, Conway and King group. Pretty sad. It hit me pretty hard while sitting in the airport with a bunch of missionaries going home. Thats kind of tough. Good though. Lots of transfers. Our mission logistics are horrible. We spent forever trying to figure out who was going where and how they were getting to different places and then mess up and redo it and then mess up again etc, etc. It was pretty bad.

We went to C's hearing today, this morning, and she got all of her jail time suspended. She is just on probation. That means that she will have an interview with President and they can send a baptismal request to the First Presidency. We will be looking forward to that.

A PMF came to church this last week. We had our Christmas program so that was good. Elder Goff and I both sang in the choir.

The work is going forward. Again, no unhallowed snowflake can stop the work from progressing.

I will talk to you Christmas day!

Redjumpsuits

Hey there.

This last week went really well. All the zone conferences (only 4 this time) were awesome. After 4 guest appearances by Santa, I was pretty tired of redjumpsuits. I will have to send you the pics. What more can I say? Zone conferences were good.

The first couple of zone conferences were good but they lacked musical talent. We had every zone prepare 2 musical numbers. when we got to Helena, the talent picked up with Elder Goodwin and Ika doin Silent Night on the Uke. It was pretty good. We just had a lot of musical talent in Helena with Butte, Bozeman, and Great Falls there too. Kalispell was probably the toughest. Not only was it the last but, When you have good musical numbers and departing testimonies, it gets really hard. I dont want to give a departing testimony. 2 mer transfers and Im done. Its too fast.

About the musical number in Kalispell: A lady wrote a song in Big Fork. Elder Carlson put lyrics to it. Elder King played it. 2 Sisters sang it. It was really good. The next morning, before the 8 hour drive back to Billings, we went to a member's house to record the song. I will have to send you a copy along with Elder King's Christmas CD.

Speaking of red jumpsuits, right before we left the little recording studio at the member's house, we asked him to play the drums for us. He asked for President Gardner's permission and President said, "oh yes. Please." haha. He didnt know what he was saying yes to. The member (Bro Denny) cranked up a song by red jumpsuit apparatus and played along with it. By the time it all started, it was too late for PG to say no so we listened to the loud, earth shattering song. It was awesome. We were all laughing so hard.(Not Prez)

That was probably the highlight of our week.

We are having a really weird transfer this time around. We are sending more sister missionaries home than we are receving. PG asked us to think about some sister areas that we could close and send Elders to. One of those is potentially Polson/Ronan area. As we were driving through Polson, I said, kind of sarcastically, "Hey, you should double me in to Polson?" There was a really long pause after.... He said, hmmm. Thats all I know. Thats all he has said. What IF? It probably wouldnt work though seeing how it would have to happen this time around.

I have been learning a lot about the Savior lately. Like I said last time, we had been assigned to go through to the TG to look at all the scriptural references regarding the Savior. I am trying to make my relationship more real. I think a lot of the time I have associated Him with a picture in my head or something like that whenever I share a testimony or read a scripture story. Are you hearing me right? There are just so many pictures/paintings that I dont quite put a real person with the testimony. Its not a bad thing but I dont want to know the book character. I want to know the person. He's a man. One thing that really impressed me about Elder Packer was his testimony. He didnt say, "I know the church is true." He said, "It's all real." "This is real." "Jesus Christ really does live." It was really powerful. I hope to be like that.

K is doing well still. She has been getting lots of famliy grief but, she is hanging on. She is converted. We are waiting for her court sentence on the 20th. After her sentencing, we will see what the next steps are to take.

We will find out Transfers Thursday morning and the new AP Wed. Morning. We will probably go pick him up wherever he is. King and Unga go home this Saturday. Unga speaks the next day. So, he speaks this next Sunday. I gave him our home phone number. He should give you a call.

LOVE
Elder Heywood.

Letter sent Monday:

I'm alive.

I will send a full email today but wanted your thoughts on couple of things.

I am making an appearance as Santa at our Zone Conferences. Elder King will by my elf. We want to know how we should make our ENTRANCE. Its a surprise. We gotta make the kiddos smile.

Also, we want some ideas for games that can be played with large groups of people. Christmas oriented.

If you don't have any ideas don't strain yourselves to come up with some. I just wondered if you had any off the top of yur heads.

LOVE

Letter sent Tuesday:

Hey. Sorry for not emailing earlier. Also, sorry for the mis-communication. The zone conferences are this week. We just had our first one today in Billings. It was good. The main part of it was the testimony of President Hill. President Hill is in our mission presidency, a counselor to president Gardner. He lives up in the Missoula area but came down to give his talk. He is a scientist and works at the university in Missoula. He is on the committee for election of the Nobel Prize as well. He has some pretty good knowledge of science. His presentation was really good. Maybe I will record it.

P.S. The Santa appearance was alright.

I have something for you guys to do as a family. For the month of December go to the topical guide and look over scripture references under JESUS CHRIST. There are over 18 pages of references and about 50 different subjects. Learn a little more about the savior.

We go to Lovell, WY tomorrow morning.

Last week was pretty good. The longest drive of the week was from Great Falls all the way to Glendive. It was long. The whole time I kept thinking that I could drive from Gilbert to San Diego in the time that it took for us to make our trip. It was nice to spend time in the other areas and get to know some of the other Elders a little bit better. Of course, the best stop was Glendive. Plus, we got to go to church in the morning. It allowed me to say the goodbye that I was never allowed to 4 weeks ago.

It sounds like things are goin good back at homebase. Grandma sent some pics of Thanksgiving and the grass was green and the kiddos were wearin short and t shirts. It is warming up here. This evening it was about 30. It felt really good. I will be glad when Its gone.

You will have to tell Bishop Greer thanks for me. He sent me a really inspirational letter the other day. It was really good.

I gave Elder Unga and King our home phone. you should be expecting a call within the next three weeks or so. The big mission speculation right now is trying to figure out who will replace Elder King. Its different being on this end of things.

C is doing good. She came to the mission home to watch the Christmas devotional with us and the Gardners. Afterwards we had a "understanding" type lesson for her. She has criminal charges and she still doesn't understand why she cant be baptized... yet.

I'm thinking this week we will try to swing by the As and have dinner with them.

I will give a better report next week.

Plowers may rage, snowballs may combine...

Our missionaries are going forth to different nations. The Standard of Truth has been erected. No unhallowed snowflake can stop the work from progressing. Plowers may rage, snowballs may combine....

Bam! This Thanksgiving was by far the most ornate and lavish ever, if I ever saw one.  "Pertinear" Bill Gates status. Let me describe - (I wish I had taken a picture) Decorations: The house has been photographed in the past for magazines. That should give you some idea. There is a whole room in the basement, close to the size of our house, dedicated for decorations. Because there are so many Christmas decorations, the Thanksgiving decorations are intermingled with the Christams ones so that there will be enough of an early start to put up all the Christams decorations. Im talkin life size santas and nutcrackers in the front entrance way along with baby jesus in swaddling clothes. There were 8 of us all together and the food had to have been made by Martha Stewart. Talk about deck the halls...this house was decked out. 46' x 22' indoor swimming pool. Perfect for takin a dip in the middle of winter. Endless. I wish I could even describe the tree. It was awesome.

Overall, Thanksgiving was good. We had Tgiving dinner 2 Sundays ago because that was the only time the family we ate with would have had the chance to do it. Thursday, we had our normal Tgiving and Saturday night had another full on feast because of family coming in late. Lots of food.
We had lots of snow. Its almost to the point of Un-driveable. I am so glad I live in a place where it doesnt snow.

This week is going to be a long one. Tonight we go to Bozeman and spend Tuesday in Belgrade with the ZLs there. Wed = Butte. Thurs = Missoula. Fri = Great Falls. Sat = GLENDIVE and Sunday morning for Church too. The next week after this one: Zone Conferences - Tues = Lovell. Wed = Billlings. Thurs = Helena. Fri = Kalispell. Sat = T ups in Big Fork. The week after that, Wed. = a new assistant. Fri = Transfer calls/transfer hodge podge. Sat = Elder King, Unga go home. The following week: Get the new greenies and start all over again.

This morning we spent about 4 hours doing snow removal. After our snow removal, we went to the County Courts Building to support K with her hearing/sentencing.(?)(I never want to be an attorney. lame) What will happen with K, depending on what her sentence is, is she will write a letter to the First Presidency along with PG to recieve baptism permission. We think it will go through if she only gets house arrest and probation. If she gets incarcerated, probably a big NO. When we got to the court building, we found out that the sentencing never happened so, that was a big waste of time. Now, I am here typing.  K is doing really well though. She has now been smoke free for about 2 weeks. She is doing awesome.

We saw R a couple-three days ago. We kind of stopped in on her. She has lots of problems and she isnt letting anybody help her out. She's in a rut and she wont allow the only one that can help her get out of that rut assist her.

Elder House got cut open again yesterday because he was swelling up inside and they had to let him drain out. He and Elder Goff have six baptismal dates online and the big concern for them is if they are able to attend to their investigators like we they need to. PG doesnt know quite yet what to do.

The only other thing that we did last week, which I can think of, is froze. 24/7 It was awesome. I look forward now to days like today where it will be a high of 25. It feels really nice.

Dearest family, apologies need to be extended. I apologize for the very very late response and weekly email. Right now we are driving to Cody, WY to spend the day (11/24/10) with Elder Conway and Elder Child. We just got done doing teamups with Elder Goff and Elder House in Worland, WY. NOTE: This is the first time I have crossed the MT/WY border in the 20 months that I have been out. Its frozen solid so, I cant quite make a solid and complete decision on the proposition of Wyo being a “good area.” All I see is white, my mind is auto playing White Christmas by Crosby.

Elder House is missionary who entered the mission field about 6 weeks after me. You may ask yourself why I am writing about this missionary. Let me tell you. Last Wednesday Elder House had some very severe pain in the lower right part of his abdomen. Yep. Appendectomy. While scoping the appendix, the doctors noticed a very oversized colon. They stopped the scope, cut him open down the middle and spread him wide open to find that his colon was three times the size it should be that he had some infected pieces of intestine as well as a messed up colon. The results aren’t back, but the initial diagnosis was khrons. He said that all this would explain losing 45 pounds since being out on a mission along with consistent and constant diahreah. He is doing well. Our main purpose for this recent trip was to check up on him and his 35 staples in his stomach but, also to work with some of the zone leaders in WY. So far, success. I was very impressed by the pictures of the surgery, his whole digestive system exposed and partially extracted. I hope things like that never happen to me.

The last week in Billings was good. There is a lady named R who was referred to the missionaries by a member about a week before I got to Billings. I was able to teach her in her home about a week ago.

We taught a lady named K  for the first time last Wednesday.   She is very smart, biblically and is understanding and applying the principles of the Gospel.

Thats about it for now. We are speaking in church on GRATITUDE this Sunday even though the last two weeks have been on gratitude and Thanksgiving will be long gone. Whatever.

The last couple of days have been in the 0 degree range and I am not used to it.

Best news ever for this week-

There is a sister missionary from Temple Square serving in our mission. Her name is Sister Terasevich. I never knew about this news because when she first came in she was serving up near Kalispell but, she is serving here in Billings and I have now been privileged to know that she is related to someone whom we all love. I dont know his "on-screen" name but, his real name is Daniel Terasevich. Daniel was a part of an LDS film production where big name mormon movie stars such as: Kirby Heyborne and Will Swenson were involved as well. The movie tells a tale of 3 men who are searching for glory, fame and spiritual gratification by sharing Gospel messages through their muscial talents. Everclean, cleaner than listerine.

Daniel Terasevich was the lead singer of Everclean. Is that crazy or what? She personally, hates the movie. She told me that they grabbed him just because he could sing well. Cool story Hanzel.

1st week in Billings...

The week has been really weird. I got the call Wed. Nov. 3rd and left for Billings the next morning. Elder Snyder picked up Elder Colf and took him straight back to Glendive to show him around for about 4 days until HE left for home. So, there are two new Elders in Glendive right now harvesting all the seeds that have been sown. Good for them. DS is going to stop by on his way home for Thanksgiving so that will ease the pain. At this point, I am thankful for facebook again. My connections to Glendive aren't completely severed. Blessing.

Back to the past week. I came in Thursday afternoon and we spent that day finishing up transfers. The next morning, all the calls were made out to the mission and all the planning that goes with transfers. Calls have to be made. A schedule of who is going where, at what time, on what day, is made. Plans for all the departing an incoming missionaries are made, etc. We have to figure out, out of all the options we have, to see what routes will work for the transfer van, and if they don't, what tickets need to be ordered for buses. The list is a long one. The weekend was alright. Sunday night was the worst (7th) staying up until 1am to deal with all of the incoming numbers for the mission and then wake up to be at the mission office by 7 to meet with PG. I don't feel like a missionary anymore. I could give you all of the responsibilities etc but it would be blab. I think the best part of it all was picking up the new missionaries from the airport. We picked up 14 new missionaries. It was fun. They are more than excited and more nervous than anyone could describe. They asked Elder King and I over 2 billion questions before we even got to the mission home. It was a good time. We have a Sister Stephanie Reed from Mesa. Mesa High School. says she hangs out with Alicia Hatch and Todd Aillon. We got an Elder Trevor Owens from Mesa as well. He went to Westwood and graduated in 09. On top of that we got An Elder Palacios from Gilbert who went to Mesquite High School. I almost forgot, Elder Jacob Hamblin. I really like him. He was pretty surprised to see me. I think it was good. He seemed a little bummed not being in his mission yet and not knowing any of the other missionaries because he had been in a different district during his time at the MTC. He hung out with me for quite a bit of the time they were here in Billings. He is serving with a really good missionary. His companion's name is Elder Hughes and they are serving on the Crow Indian Reservation in Hardin, about an hour away from Billings. He should do good.

After all the Greenies got off to their different areas we spent Wednesday (10th) making dinner and getting things ready for all the departing missionaries. (Elder Holt, Elder Brooks, Elder Snyder and their group) That was a lot tougher than I thought it was going to be. In the morning we then got to say goodbye again by dropping them off at the airport. It was good.

Elder King: I think I told you quite a bit about him but he is very dedicated and very motivated. From Peoria, AZ. Centennial High School. He is very smart and can play the piano better than you could imagine. seriously. We actually get along really well.

Tomorrow we leave for Helena to have our West Side Leadership meeting and then come back to Billings to do our East Side meeting. After that, we plan for our zone conferences. Everything that I love: Preparing for lots of talks and Planning...not!

A little more on the last week after we got everything taken care of: We finished off the week pretty well. I am getting to meet some of the members and investigators little by little. Our Ward Mission Leader is an awesome guy who was only baptized last March. Guess who taught him? Elder Tanner when he was in Billings. Our WML is the Athletic director for MSU (Billings campus) He is an awesome guy and is very on top of things. Pretty impressive to be a ward mission leader for only being baptized for 8 months huh?

We closed out the week(yesterday, Sunday night) with a Musical Fireside which I was thrown into at the last second because I just got here. I helped with singing 2 songs and gave a little 3 minute talk. It was well. We had lots of non members show up. I think there was an estimated 3-4 hundred people. Sister Barbi McClaws was in charge of the whole thing. She did a really good job organizing it and then sang a solo for the closing song. Does her name ring any bells? I didn't think so. She is Marianne Smith's sister and they look almost identical. kind of. I don't think Sister Smith sings though. Overall, it was very good. An exciting busy week. I will have to tell you about my hospital visit next email.
